Default Ohio Writer Needs Help!

Hello all-

I am a writer and have recently received an assignment to do a book that takes place in Palm Springs. The only problem. . .I live in rural Ohio! Not only, that but I've never lived in Southern CA and certainly have never been to Palm Springs. Of course, I'm doing my usual writerly research on the area, but I'm wondering if people could talk to me about what Palm Springs is like. How would YOU characterize the area, your neighbors, people on the street? What is Palm Springs "known" for? What does the air smell like? What do people wear to the supermarket? When you're walking the streets, how do you know you're in Palm Springs and no where else?

I'll be very curious to receive any comments - long, short or in between!

Thanks,

ECB

Default Palm Springs

For starters, Palm Springs is a beautiful oasis...

People are extremely casual in both dress and manner, for the most part. The air smells clean and sage-y. The mountains are what let you know you’re in Palm Springs and no where else. There is development, but also a careful maintenance of open space/hiking/mountains, etc.

Enjoy your time in Palm Springs and best of luck to you with your book!
