Bloomington, IN - Palm Springs connection?

I'm from Bloomington and am looking to buy a home to rent out except Dec thru Feb when I plan to be in PS. Are there neighborhoods and hang outs in PS which might resemble the "flavor" of Bloomington?
Near west side, Soma, Laughing Planet, Bloomingfoods, Player's Pub, galleries, lots of musicians, open minded people, not glitzy but down to earth and fairly conscious?
